Cholesterol Tracker Checklist
High cholesterol can lead to a greater risk of a heart attack and stroke, so it is very important to check your cholesterol levels regularly - especially if you are at risk.
Results:
- Total Cholesterol: Less than 200 is desirable; between 200-240 is considered borderline; above 240 is considered high risk..
- Triglycerides: High triglyceride levels can result from being overweight, drinking a lot of alcohol, or having diabetes or other disorders. Less than 150 is normal; between 150-300 is borderline; above 300 is high.
- HDL ("Healthy" Cholesterol): Protects you from heart attacks and strokes - the higher the number, the better. You can raise your HDL level by quitting smoking, losing excess weight, and being more active. An HDL level of less than 35 is considered high risk.
- LDL ("Lousy" Cholesterol): This is the main carrier of harmful cholesterol in your blood. The higher the number, the greater risk of heart disease. An LDL level of less than 130 is desirable; between 130-159 is borderline; above 160 is high. If you have known heart disease, diabetes, or have had a heart attack, your LDL level should be less than 100.
